- Across the state, police, schools and a host of other public services are being cut back and towns are scrambling for cash due to the $13 billion state deficit. I don't think now, as the governor and our legislators are seeking creative ways to restore state funds, is the time to be wasteful in our spending. The three-lane plan is an opportunity to save taxpayers a significant amount of money.
- The three-lane plan would save the state $25 million at a time when the state budget is in flux and the governor has proposed to cut more than $300 million in state funding to local municipalities.
- Our three-lane plan accomplishes the same goals as the “$31 million mile” that IDOT has proposed for $6 to $8 million and is safer for the children in our community.
- As a parent, it is my responsibility to voice my concerns over the five-lane “superhighway” proposed to fix the traffic issues at Willow Road.
- A three-lane Willow Road will protect pedestrians, residential areas, and most importantly, the safety and well-being of our children while improving our traffic problems today.
- I do not understand why we need a five-lane “superhighway” running through our small community. Let me be clear, I support an enhanced Willow Road – but not a road that will put our children in immediate danger. It is absolutely unrealistic, irresponsible and unacceptable to believe our children can safely cross a four- or five- lane “superhighway.”
- More than 75 percent of the immediate area around Willow Road is made up of schools, churches and parks with children crossing during the most congested times of day. The day-to-day worries of a parent should not include whether or not your child can get to school safely.
- Extensive planning and studies have proven the three-lane solution will improve congestion while preserving the safety and character of our region. That is why it was agreed to by area communities, community leaders and elected officials alike nearly five years ago when it was one signature away from being put into action.
- We cannot let special interest groups interfere with the quality of life and safety of our community. What are we waiting for? We need safe solutions and we need them today.
- As I understand it, not only will the three-lane solution save our children’s lives, it will also save millions in taxpayer dollars. As a [parent, educator, etc.] I would much rather see our money fund projects that support our children, like education, than compromise their safety.
- As a frequent user of Willow Road, I understand the frustration that comes with sitting in traffic. However, expanding Willow Road to five lanes to shave seconds off our commute is not worth the safety risks to our children.
- I think it is ridiculous we are in a situation today that forces us to fight for the safety and well-being of our children when a clear solution has already been identified, a three-lane Willow Road. I am terrified of the dangers and consequences a five-lane “superhighway” will introduce to my children’s daily lives if this plan is approved.
- I believe our children’s safety should be our number one priority. I hope I can count on your support to help promote safe solutions for our community.
